Pre-Production / Production
Before the actual recording of an album or track can begin, producers and artists must prepare all of the elements essential to song creation. This period of preparation is generally referred to as pre-production, and it addresses three fundamental areas:
- Songwriting and song crafting
- Defining the vision of the record (musically and lyrically)
- Ensuring the performances serve the overall vision of the record and identity of the artist
These areas are continually addressed and developed throughout the recording process, but the more work done in pre-production, the more effective the artist’s time in the studio will be.
Production
Production typically refers to the process of recording an album (or other music project) in its entirety. This term is also often used to refer to the overall sonic quality, mix or clarity of a finished product.
